Great Snowed-In Activities

 In Blog

Unlike kids, adults don’t often get snow days. However, a good night’s snowfall can often be a good motivating force to keep us indoors for the day. Rather than spending the day twiddling your thumbs or mindlessly scrolling through the Internet, make it matter by staying busy – or at least devoting it to a relaxing, rejuvenating activity. If you’re at a loss for what to do, here are some ideas.

Host a Movie Marathon

On a blustery, snowy day, it can be difficult to muster up the energy to do much of anything. So, why not take a little time to kick back on the couch and power through some timely holiday movies? Better yet, invite friends and family over to join you in your festive film watching. You’re not being lazy – you’re getting into the holiday spirit!

Get Productive

Your “snow day” could your chance to relax a little, but you could also use it as an opportunity to put some time in on things you’ve been waiting to cross off your to-do list. Are there a few loads of laundry to finish up? Some bathroom cleaning to be done? Emails to be sent? If you’re going to be trapped inside, you might as well get some good work done.

Catch Up on Your Hobby

You could get some work done, or you could use that extra time to focus on something that’s less necessary and more fun. If you’ve been meaning to finally pick up that book or finish up a pet project, being snowed in is a great opportunity to devote time to the things that actually matter to you. Even if you don’t get anything crucial done, you’ll still feel some accomplishment at the end of the day.

Bake Some Sweet Treats

Everyone enjoys some tasty baked goods, especially around the holiday season. Whether you have a craving for brownies, cookies, or something a little more involved, baking can be a fun time to pass the time, and with a great end result to boot. Plus, you’ll have something to share with your loved ones when you visit or invite others other. That is, if you can help yourself from eating them all!

Sit and Watch the Snow Fall

In the midst of shuffling back and forth between work and home, we can often lose sight of the beauty of winter. Take a load off and bring some of the magic of winter back by sitting with a cup of hot cocoa and watching as the snow fall on the other side of the window. There’s little more that’s relaxing than letting your mind wander as the snow paints your surroundings white.

Go Out and Enjoy the Snow!

You could spend the day avoiding the cold, snowy outdoors at all cost. Or, you could throw on your hat, scarf, and coat and live a little! Even if you only have the energy (or tolerance for cold) to muster up a walk around town, getting out lets you see a different side of your surroundings. Remember, the weather will warm up before you know it and the snow will melt sooner or later, so you might as well enjoy it while it lasts!
